Dr. S. Kats studeerde geneeskunde in Rotterdam. In het Catharina ziekenhuis Eindhoven werd zij opgeleid tor cardiothoracaal chirurg en in 2009 als zodanig geregistreerd.
In 2011 promoveerde zij op het onderwerp 'Prevention of endotoxin release during cardiopulmonary bypass'. Na werkzaam te zijn geweest in het Antonius Ziekenhuis te Nieuwegein werkt zij sinds 2010 als cardiothoracaal chirurg in Maastricht. Dr. Kats is opleider cardiothoracale chirurgie.
