Research Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology (PhD)
We are seeking a Research Fellow in Interventional Cardiology to join our team at the Department of Cardiology at Heart and Vascular Center/Maastricht UMC+ and Cardiovascular Research Institute Maastricht (CARIM) in the Netherlands. This will be a full-time, 4-year position with the opportunity to earn a PhD upon completion.
The rise of structural valve interventions and minimal invasive surgical procedures have changed the clinical pathways of patients presenting with mitral valve disease. No longer are we looking for a superior treatment of intervention, but we must choose the best treatment for the individual patient. Your research will focus on the implementation of clinical care and research pathways to improve this decision-making process. You will have a leading role in the management and further development of the supraregional SMILE (Significant Mitral Insufficiency Limburg Evaluation) registry and the PRECISION-M (Personalised Care for Patients with Mitral Valve Disease) registry.
In addition, your research will address the following issues:
- Which intervention is best for which patient and when is the most appropriate time to intervene on a diseased mitral valve?
- How will the intervention affect atrial function?
- What is the role of atrial function and atrial failure in mitral valve disease, and in post-intervention outcomes and quality of life (QOL)?
The candidate should have a Master degree in Medicine or Biomedical Science or will soon get this degree.

Vacature arts-onderzoeker/promovendus interventie cardiologie (PhD)
Wij zijn op zoek naar een onderzoeker Interventie Cardiologie om ons team te versterken op de afdeling Cardiologie van het Hart+Vaat Centrum/Maastricht UMC+ en het Cardiovascular Research Institute Maastricht (CARIM) in Nederland. Het gaat om een fulltime functie van 4 jaar met de mogelijkheid om na afloop te promoveren.
De opkomst van structurele klepinterventies en minimaal invasieve chirurgische procedures hebben de klinische routes van patiënten met mitralisklepaandoeningen veranderd. We zoeken niet langer naar een superieure interventiebehandeling, maar moeten de beste behandeling voor de individuele patiënt kiezen. Jouw onderzoek richt zich op de implementatie van klinische zorg- en onderzoekstrajecten om dit besluitvormingsproces te verbeteren. Je hebt een leidende rol in het beheer en de verdere ontwikkeling van het supraregionale SMILE-registry (Significant Mitral Insufficiency Limburg Evaluation) en het PRECISION-M-registry (Personalised Care for Patients with Mitral Valve Disease).
Daarnaast richt jouw onderzoek zich op de volgende vraagstukken:
- Welke interventie is het beste voor welke patiënt en wanneer is het meest geschikte moment om in te grijpen bij een zieke mitralisklep?
- Welke invloed heeft de ingreep op de boezemfunctie?
- Wat is de rol van boezemfunctie en boezemfalen bij mitralisklepziekte en bij de uitkomsten na de ingreep en de kwaliteit van leven (QOL)?
Je dient in het bezit te zijn van een masterdiploma geneeskunde of biomedische wetenschappen of haalt dit binnenkort.
